CONTRACT FOR LIBRARY SERVICE FOR BLACK HAWK COUNTY

This contract is made and entered into this 14th day of June 2000, by and between the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors on behalf of Black Hawk County, Iowa, hereinafter called the County, and the Boards of Trustees of the public libraries in the cities and towns of Cedar Falls, Dunkerton, Evansdale, Hudson, Janesville, La Porte City, and Waterloo, hereinafter called the Libraries, and the parties do hereby agree, acknowledge and contract as follows:

This contract is made pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 336.18.1 of the Code of Iowa.

That all of the cities and towns named above have libraries which are supported by levies upon the property in their respective corporation.

That it is mutually desired by all parties hereto that residents of Black Hawk County, residing outside of incorporated cities and towns, be entitled to receive library service from any library mentioned above, upon an equal basis.

That each and all of the said Libraries agree to loan library materials to all residents of Black Hawk County, Iowa, living outside of the incorporated cities and towns, upon the same terms and conditions of the city or town in which said libraries are located.

That the Libraries will not reduce the amount of support received through taxation within their respective corporation because of receiving these monies, and that funds received from Black Hawk County, under this agreement shall be used for the purchase of materials, equipment and to improve service. That if any said Libraries reduce the amount of support received through taxation, the County has the option of declaring the contract void as to any such library.

That the County will furnish $100,000 for the implementation of this contract.

That such funds shall be divided as follows with no Library receiving from the County more than 50% of the amount of their local tax:

Cedar Falls Public Library shall receive $15,480
Dunkerton Public Library shall receive $4,740
Evansdale Public Library shall receive $1,045
Hudson Public Library shall receive $7,246
Janesville Public Library shall receive $8,863
La Porte City Public Library shall receive $4,627
Waterloo Public Library shall receive $57,999

That funds will be distributed semiannually by the County Auditor to the Library Boards.

That this contract may be, by mutual agreement of all parties hereto, terminated on written notice given sixty days before the end of the fiscal year.
