New Sign at the Independence Public Library

The new sign at the Independence Public Library.

The Friends of the Independence Public Library led a dedication ceremony Thursday for the new sign at the library. The organization, which was founded in 1996 to support the library and its services, raised more than $1,100 to pay for the sign. During the ceremony, Friends leader Alta Bachman said the sign was necessary to help the library with earning accreditation. She said the organization has raised thousands of dollars through its used books sales. The purpose of the group is to build a partnership between the library and the Independence community, as well as people from surrounding areas.
