New Friday Notes: notes for next week

October 19-21 ILA Annual, Dubuque - ER, KD, SM
We hope to see you there

ANNOUNCEMENTS:  e-rate this time.

2004

By now you should all be getting your e-rate discounts for funding year 2004, except Greene (Omnitel).  IF you are not let NEILSA know IMMEDIATELY.

Shameless Consortia Library Self Promotion:

You could use this to explain how your little library teamed with others has significant economic impact.
The Consortia:

  • Applied for and was approved for $110,936.64 This does not include 1. Libraries that applied on their own or 2. the SLI who applies for the ICN rooms.
  • Has brought back to NE Iowa, by the end of the year $57,047.21; from where I come from $57,000 is not chicken feed, but then again I haven't checked the current cost of chicken feed.
2005

The first of the e-rate approvals for FY FY 2005, a special request, has come through, we hope it is an advanced scout for the rest.

FOR your patrons:

HOME HEATING ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE

Low-income persons needing assistance in heating their homes should contact their local community action agency office.  Eligibility for assistance is limited to households with income at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty guideline.  For example, a single parent with two children qualifies with annual gross income no higher than $24,135.

According to the Department of Human Rights’ website, the regular application period starts November 1. However, households including persons who are over age 60 or disabled may apply earlier.   There are community action outreach offices in most counties.  A statewide directory of offices is available at http://www.dcaa.iowa.gov/app_sites/map.html

For your Board:

FISCAL COMMITTEE MEETS

The Legislative Fiscal Committee met on September 28th for its second meeting of the interim.  The committee held an abbreviated meeting to allow members to meet with the chairs and ranking members of the budget subcommittees to review the budgeting for results process.  The committee received a revenue update, the latest Medicaid estimates, discussion of increased energy costs, an update on the Honey Creek bonding, and reviewed options relating to the disposition of the Wallace building.

The Committee received an overview of revenue collections through September 27th, which appears to put the state on track to meet the revenue estimates for FY 2006, despite a dip in personal income tax withholding revenues.  The Legislative Service Agency (LSA) presented an overview of increased energy costs in the state and the potential impact this may have on state revenue collections.
