ABOUT THE LSA:

Found Money?
Accreditation applications:
A few weeks ago I sat with a library director and Board President of a library that has not filed an accreditation applications for several years.  With three minor physical plant modifications we were able to take the library from non participation to fully accredited  - net result circa $1500 more in the budget.

With the NEW accreditation application have you carefully reviewed your status?  IF you wish help NEILSA staff will be happy to sit with you and review the accreditation application in detail.

Sponsored by the State Library and the Children’s & Young People Forum, this year’s theme is “CHILLIN’ @ THE LIBRARY.”  Here’s a preview, as written by Mary Cameron from the State Library: “…Thursday's keynote speaker is Gene Del Vecchio. He is a nationally recognized expert on youth marketing and the founder of CoolWorks, a marketing consulting company that helps clients create and research really cool stuff that kids will love and parents will appreciate. He has worked in the youth arena for over 20 years with such companies as Walt Disney, Mattel, and MGA Entertainment. He is the author of four books:  The Pearl of Anton, Creating Ever-Cool, The Blockbuster Toy, and A Knight's Code of Business.  He will discuss, "Making the Library Cool for Kids," that will help participants understand both the timeless emotional needs in children and the more timely trends in their world.  Gene Del Vecchio will be doing a book signing after his session.

On Friday, keynote speakers will be Jean Gullickson, Children's Services Manager and Debi Stephenson, Children's Programmer, from the Carnegie-Stout Public Library (Dubuque).  They will be presenting "Extreme Makeover @ Your Library: Wild and Eyecatching Promotionals."  Want to spice up your surroundings?  Make your library more inviting? Then join this duo to get hands-on ideas for creating exciting displays, exhibits, signage and other promotional ideas.

Plus, each day will feature a vast array of break-out sessions. Tentative sessions for Thursday include:  Fingerplays, Teen Programming, Teen Volunteers, Children and Youth Book Talks, Mysteries in the Library, Scrap Booking with Kids and many more.
