New Friday Notes: notes for next week
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
OPEN
ACCESS, ACCESS PLUS, and DSA Reports Due 7/31/05:
Please take note of this important summertime deadline. Final reports
for the OPEN ACCESS, ACCESS PLUS, and DIRECT STATE AID programs
are due at the State
Library
by July 31st. Taking each in turn:
For
OPEN ACCESS,
report the number of items checked out to OPEN ACCESS customers
throughout FY’05. Remember you can also claim postage reimbursement
(if a customer drops off a book belonging to another participating
OA library, you can claim actual postage costs to mail it back;
do not include postage associated with interlibrary loan)
Note too that on the last page of the report, the State
Library
is asking success stories involving OPEN ACCESS, how this statewide
borrowing privilege made a difference to your customers. Look for
this report and further explanations here:http://www.silo.lib.ia.us/for-ia-libraries/enrich-ia/open-access/index.htm
For
ACCESS PLUS,
report the number of interlibrary loan “lending” transactions throughout
FY’05. Here, most small libraries catch a breakJ
If all
of your lending was done through SILO or OCLC, you won’t need to
supply the details - just the numbers because the State Library
already has the detail. However, if you loaned materials to other
libraries that DID NOT
go through SILO channels, then you do
need to report those loans. For instance, if your library loaned
a set of multiple titles to a neighboring library for their book
discussion group, report that on the ACCESS PLUS form. Or if your
library loaned a number of dragon books to a neighboring library
for their summer program, report that on the ACCESS PLUS form. Look
for this report and further explanations here: http://www.silo.lib.ia.us/for-ia-libraries/enrich-ia/access-plus/index.htm
For
DIRECT STATE AID,
report how your library spent its share of the DIRECT STATE AID
money in FY’05. This is the payment that libraries receive for meeting
the service standards outlined in IN SERVICE TO IOWA:
PUBLIC LIBRARY MEASURES OF QUALITY.
If your library met enough standards to be rewarded with funding
in TIERS 1-2-3,
then you’ll need to relay to the State
Library
what you spent that money on. Look for this report and further explanation
here:http://www.silo.lib.ia.us/for-ia-libraries/enrich-ia/index.html
This reporting is necessary because libraries are reimbursed for
OPEN ACCESS and ACCESS PLUS transactions, as well as for meeting
standards in TIERS 1-2-3.
And because it’s also just plain good library management to track
activity in these areas.
As
always, call NEILSA with any questions or contact the State
Library
directly. Thanks for your attention to these fiscal year-ending
final reports!
