Subject: Librarian Makeover Search
I'm the Story Producer for ABC's reality show "Extreme Makeover."
We are currently casting for season four and are specifically looking
for a librarian who wants to change her appearance.
If you or anyone you know might be interested, please have them
go to http://www.exmcasting.com
<http://www.exmcasting.com/>
and complete an on-line application. Other stories for which
we are currently casting include: * A small-town girl that
wants an "my fair lady" experience * A young engaged couple who
want to change their appearance and receive a wedding of a lifetime
* An accident victim who was injured by someone else's doing * A
returning soldier from Iraq You can forward my email to anyone
and everyone you think could help. You may also contact me
for more information or verification. Thank you in advance for your
help! Andrea Schwartzberg Story Producer "Extreme Makeover"

And now for
something entirely different:
When I told that story recently to Brewster Kahle, the founder of
the San Francisco non-profit Internet
Archive , he shook his head: “When we were growing up,” he said,
“we had great libraries. But for kids today, the Internet is their
library. We are giving them an instantly accessible resource
that is much worse than what we grew up with.” But Kahle,
along with Google
, Amazon
and a clutch
of prestigious libraries worldwide are all working to change
that: digitizing thousands of books every day, building a global
library where every manner of content lives online.

ABOUT THE LSA:
Computer Consulting Contract
for Services
MEETING:
Aug 9 @ Tripoli
@ 19:00 Meeting
of interested parties.
During the Gates
workshops a group of librarians asked about contracting for computer
services with the instructor. The Tripoli/Westgate Director
Amy Parker took the concept and promoted it with libraries on Iowa
Libraries (iowalib), she received a number of positive replies.
We are now ready
to take it to the next step – A meeting of everyone interested.
The meeting:
We would divide
the meeting 3 ways:
Amy - overview;
Kim - services provided;
Ken - administration/contract.
We will
have discussion and Q&A for all in attendance. You will
have a chance to review the necessary paperwork and get it clearly
in mind what you are looking at. You will then be asked to
take the contract/paperwork back to your board for review and to
sign on the “dotted” line.
We strongly
suggest that each library send up to three people 1. Director, 2.
Board Member & 3. (if possible) any volunteer technology person
you have.
We want
to make it clear up front that this contract will not replace your
local tech, unless you want to, these services are to supplement
the local skills you have built up.
NEILSA’s
role in the group is strictly as a member who has taken on some
administrative responsibility's. You will be contracting directly
with the consultant.
By
July 31, please complete your library's OPEN
ACCESS report, ACCESS
PLUS report, and DIRECT
STATE AID report and return them to the State
Library
in Des
Moines.
For
OPEN ACCESS,
report the number of items checked out to OPEN ACCESS customers
throughout FY’05. Remember you can also claim postage reimbursement
(if a customer drops off a book belonging to another participating
OA library, you can claim actual postage costs to mail it back;
do not include postage associated with interlibrary loan)
Look for this report and further explanations here: http://www.silo.lib.ia.us/for-ia-libraries/enrich-ia/open-access/index.htm
For
ACCESS PLUS,
report the number of interlibrary loan “lending” transactions throughout
FY’05. Report the total number of ILL items loaned July’04—June’05,
whether loaned through SILO, OCLC, or other means.
Look
for this report and further explanations here: http://www.silo.lib.ia.us/for-ia-libraries/enrich-ia/access-plus/index.htm
For
DIRECT STATE AID,
report how your library spent its share of the DIRECT STATE AID
money in FY’05. This is the payment that libraries receive
for meeting the service standards outlined in IN SERVICE TO IOWA:
PUBLIC LIBRARY MEASURES OF QUALITY.
If your library met enough standards to be rewarded with funding
in TIERS 1-2-3,
then you’ll need to relay to the State
Library
what you spent that money on. Look for this report and further
explanation here: http://www.silo.lib.ia.us/for-ia-libraries/enrich-ia/index.html
This
reporting is necessary because libraries are reimbursed for OPEN
ACCESS and ACCESS PLUS transactions, as well as for meeting standards
in TIERS 1-2-3.
And it’s also just good old fashioned library management to track
activity in these areas J
As always, call NWILS with any questions
or contact the State
Library
directly. Thanks for your attention to these fiscal year-ending
final reports!
